Small House Windows

Regardless of the size of your home, there are windows that will be a great fit for your space. But, before you can determine which small house windows are a fit for you, you should first make yourself familiar with all of your many options.

Decorative Options

Small house windows can bring an added flair to any home. They bring about just a touch of unique that gives the home a custom appeal. Although not always functional, they do also serve a function. That is, they can be an additional outside light source for a dim room. And, an extra small touch of sunlight in any home can be a great addition.

Although small house windows do not vary greatly in size and function, you do have many options to choose from when it comes to shape. There are many shapes because each of them serves their own purpose. For example, the arch or trapezoid windows can be used independently or pieced with regular rectangular house windows types to create a high-end look. Most often these small house windows are placed above them for that added touch of design.

However, the porthole or octagon shaped small house windows are usually used all by themselves. Quite often these small house windows are used to benefit the architecture at the front of the home. Sometimes they are even placed in attic areas and unused areas of the house just to bring additional attractiveness to the outside of the house. By having additional small house windows in an area like an attic it makes the home appear larger on the outside and therefore more appealing.

The porthole and octagon shaped frames can also be used in bathrooms or hallways as well. These bring in just the right amount of light needed for the small space. But, they can also be used in other rooms of your house as an additional source of light. As mentioned previously, they are not functional, meaning they do not open, so they are often located up high and out of the way. Because they are more decorative in nature, with the octagon shaped you can also place a few small decorative items on the sill in order to enhance the look.

Functional Choices

There are also types that serve a more functional purpose as well. Often times, these types are found in basements where space for windows is limited. You may choose to install a basement hopper type that is hinged near the bottom of the frame and opens at the top and swings outward. These serve to bring ventilation, allow a natural light source, and provide an alternate escape route in an emergency.

These are also usually found fairly high on the wall as basement areas are set into the ground and they have to be above ground level. They are usually no taller than a foot high and allow just enough space for an average person to fit through. With these types you do not have to have the small well area outside your glass that is often an eyesore as they are able to be put above ground level.

Options for the Small Home

If you live in house that is not large in size, then you can actually use lots of windows to help expand the space. By adding multiple panes of glass you can make the home feel more open which gives it a feel of a much larger house. You can do this by either several picture windows that act like a wall of glass. Or you can piece together several tiny pieces of glass in a unique pattern that, when working together, create a unique design element.
